When Clive Tully went to Nepal as guest trek leader for Doug Scott CBE (first Briton to climb Everest), one of the trek highlights was a visit to the school at Ghunsa. Funded by profits from the trekking company, the school and health centre serves six villages, providing a facility which would otherwise not exist in a part of Nepal which is off the beaten track.

On his return, Clive nominated Scott's Ghunsa school project for an award, and as a result of Clive's nomination, Doug Scott was presented with the Merit Award by the British Guild of Travel Writers at the World Travel Market in November 1996.
