Canoe paddling along the River Wensum in Norwich

Some while ago I set myself up with a tiny GoPro video camera and a variety of accessories to film some of my canoe exploits – actually as preparation for something much bigger in the pipeline. The video here of a recent canoe trip through Norwich was shot with the camera on a headstrap, in order to leave my hands free to control the canoe. So no pretensions of fast, snappy editing and additional soundtrack. It reflects what it was – a lazy trip down the river.

Without any means of previewing the shots, I managed to get them aimed slightly high. I’ve overcome that for future videos with an app which lets me frame shots on my iPod, communicating with the camera via WiFi. If nothing else, this one takes you on a journey from New Mills to Trowse in around four minutes, which is considerably less time than my paddling companion Amy Woodyatt and I took!
